Mantras to Live By
A mantra is a word or phrase repeated often; at least, that’s one of the Merriam-Webster definitions. Mantras can serve a purpose in our everyday lives. They can help us stay focused and remind us that life is precious, and we should value every moment of it.
So, to those who want to know some great and uplifting mantras to live by, check out my list of mantras to help keep you going, even through your most challenging days.
1. Just Do It
This mantra is also known to be a slogan for Nike. This mantra can be uplifting because it tells you like it is. Whatever you want to do or try, JUST DO IT!
If you feel scared to try something new that would take you out of your comfort zone, you never will allow yourself to grow. Life is full of opportunities to try things that can be exciting and memorable, yet we sometimes hold back on a particular opportunity. It could be anything such as wanting to try skydiving, scuba diving in the ocean, or even something like confiding in someone about something that is on your mind and you want them to know.
If you don’t hold back and JUST DO IT, you won’t be left wondering what could have been.
2. Think Before Acting
I know I said JUST DO IT, at number 1, but there are some things that you would have to think about before taking action. It can be anything like accepting a job offer or promotion that would be out of the city and/or state you live in, which college you want to go to after getting accepted into several of them, or if you want to further your college education or not.
Depending on how you look at your life and what you want to succeed in, thinking before acting is one of the best things to do because it lets you evaluate everything you have, and you get to explore every option you have available to you. Being thorough with every opportunity you have while planning can be beneficial to you, especially if you weigh the pros and cons of every opportunity you have. Doing that can be very helpful to you in the long run when you decide on an impactful decision.
3. Take A Deep Breath And Relax
I’ve heard people tell me this a lot when I’m feeling stressed or anxious, and for a good reason.
Life is too short to be worried about and stressed out all the time. So when you feel like everything in your life is chaotic and overwhelming, just pause, take a deep breath, and relax.
When you pause for a few moments to take a deep breath, it can help calm you down and clear your mind, and by doing that, you can have more clarity and not feel as stressed or anxious.
4. Just Keep Swimming
Have any of you seen the Disney movies Finding Nemo and Finding Dory?
Well, if you have, then you’re very familiar with one of Dory’s famous lines: Just Keep Swimming!
This should be considered one of the best mantras to live by because it can be used in our everyday lives. There are some days we have where we face some form of obstacle or struggle, and when we look back, we think about what we could have done differently or realize something we could have done after the fact. Either way, what’s already been done is done, so don’t worry about it and just keep swimming.
When we do something we wish we could have done differently, it can impact us; however, you can use it as a lesson to have when you want to do something else. For example, you did a painting, and you’re very proud of it, but you wish you could have added something to it or left something out. So if you want to do another painting or something similar to it, just think about what you wish you could have done the first time and apply it this go-around.
Life is too short to be wondering what we could have done differently on things we have already done. So don’t worry about what has already happened and just keep swimming.
5. Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff
As I already said in numbers 3 and 4, life is too short to be stressed and worried. This is especially true when it comes to small things.
An example of this can be stressing over something broken that can be fixed. Or you took your first test at the beginning of the semester and didn’t do as well as you hoped. It’s okay, though, because you still have time to get that grade up in the class the test was taken in. As for the fixable thing that was broken, you don’t have to stress about that either because it’s tiny compared to the big stuff like the test you have to do well on for a final grade or something that breaks that cannot be fixed.
Bottom line: Life is too short to be sweating over the small stuff, so use this piece of advice as one of your mantras to live by when the small stuff seems like it’s worth worrying over.

6. There’s Always A Silver-Lining
Silver-linings are usually positive perspectives coming from a negative situation.
Negativity can be frustrating at times, and it’s not a pleasant feeling (Nothing good comes from negativity). Yet, despite the negativity we tend to see, it shows us that we can always look to the bright side. I believe there’s always a bright side to everything, no matter how bad a situation or struggle can be.
Silver-linings can provide hope and motivation when things don’t seem so great. For instance, you applied for a job you want but don’t get, but not long after that, you have an opportunity come to you that is a whole lot better than the job you wanted. It becomes a silver lining that gives you the hope and confidence you need to succeed and ultimately makes you happy with it.
7. Be In The Moment
We only have one life to live, and we should embrace every moment we are given on this Earth. Hence the reason why BE IN THE MOMENT is another one of my favorite uplifting mantras to live by.
Life is filled with memorable moments and occasions such as birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc.
But there are also other moments worth being a part of. These moments can be anything such as the beginning of a new relationship, celebrating a milestone, or even something exciting that you have never done before.
Whatever it is, savor every minute because a special moment can be a memory you can always cherish and will last a lifetime.
8. Keep Calm and Carry On
This uplifting mantra right here at number 8 is great to live by. Queen Elizabeth II goes by this mantra, which is her number 1. It works for her because she’s ruled England for 70 years and is now known as England’s longest-reigning monarch.
This mantra is uplifting because it’s a way to keep your head held high and keep going no matter how difficult it may be.
Times can get complicated, and you probably wonder how to get through it. Life can come with some obstacles and struggles, and if you want to get through them, try not to stress too much, especially if the situation is something you cannot personally control. So remain calm and carry on with yourself and what matters most to you.
Keeping calm and carrying on can lift a massive weight off your shoulders, and you will see yourself worrying less and being better than you would be if you were worried and stressed out.
9. Count Your Blessings
Have you ever seen a class as half full and not half empty? If so, you can see it can relate to every blessing you have.
Count your blessings because they remind you of all the good in your life, and your blessings can also be a reminder of how far you have come with your goals, accomplishments, and successes.
Also, be thankful for your blessings because you can wonder where you would be or what your life would be like without them. Your blessings can be anything such as your family and friends, being in good health, having a job/career, and just being alive and living your life.
10. Live, Laugh, Love
The 3 L’s are one of the best mantras for anyone to live by. LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE!
Living speaks for itself, and if you throw laughter and love in the mix, you’re filled with nothing but good vibes. After all, you only live once.
Laughter is another thing to have because it shows that you can have a sense of humor. You don’t have to be too serious all the time or feel overwhelmed when you can find something that can bring joy and laughter into your surroundings.
Love is also essential to have and feel. Love your family, your friends, and yourself. Love is one of the best feelings you can embrace because it’s basically at the core of anything positive. Love is a joyous feeling, and living your life the way you envision and having laughter can be an excellent combination of a mantra worth living by.
11. Faith Over Fear
I have seen and heard this one here in so many places ever since the Covid-19 pandemic began. I have seen signs posted in front yards of my hometown of Macon, GA, that say Faith Over Fear, and I have also seen people wear T-shirts that say the same thing.
I believe this is an uplifting mantra to live by because it teaches you to have faith and believe instead of being worried and scared. Times do get challenging and scary when the world around you changes, and it seems like a constant battle and/or struggle.
This mantra doesn’t have to be applied to just the Coronavirus pandemic and can be used to anything we’re afraid to do or try.
As someone like myself who is a Christian, I say trust in God and have faith that he will be there for you no matter what. As long as you put him first and have faith in him, then you don’t have to be afraid to do or try anything because his plans for you, whatever they may be, will never lead you wrong as long as you believe in him.
So when you get nervous to try or do something, just put your faith over your fear.
